Planned Parenthood Association Sierra Leone (PPASL) has embarked on awareness raising programme targeting pupils and teachers in Kenema city on the promotion of adolescent sexual and reproductive health and right. Addressing the ceremony the Chairman Joe Diawo said harmful traditional practices, teenage pregnancy and early marriage are among the key factors militating against development and quality education in Sierra Leone. He also said the programme is aimed at enabling school going children to know the functions of their body parts, plan for their future and other problems responsible for early pregnancy and other related issues in the community.
Diawo also stated that adolescent are seeds for the development of any nation and therefore called on all to treat them with all seriousness for nation building.
In her contribution the Planned Parenthood Association Sierra Leone (PPASL) Programme Service Officer East Hannah Sankoh said the campaign which stated in 2008 is aimed at disseminating vital information for the promotion of sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents especially women in Sierra Leone.
She disclosed that PPASL in collaboration with UNFPA and its partners is implementing sexual and reproductive health services and also provide clinical services to communities and villages outside the Kenema District.
